Fenix Matte and Luxe High Gloss Collections
DeWils introduces the future of engineered materials in fine cabinetry.

Fenix Nanotech Matte Collection:
 A New Level of Durability

The Fenix® Collection offers an innovative and stylish matte finish, featuring nanotechnology for extreme durability unlike anything previously available.

 FEATURES
  • Anti-fingerprint
  • Soft touch
  • Enhanced anti-bacterial properties
  • Resistance to dry heat
  • High resistance to acid solvents and household agents.
  • Thermal healing technology
 THE TECHNOLOGY
Fenix® is produced by combining thermosetting resins at both high heat and high pressure. Resins are fixed with an Electron Beam Curing Process. This creates a homogeneous non- porous high-density (nanoparticles) product capable of thermal healing.

EASY MAINTENANCE
Surfaces should be cleaned regularly but do not require any particular maintenance. Almost all normal household cleaning products or disinfectants are perfectly well tolerated. For daily cleaning, it is suggested to use a melamine foam sponge (Magic Eraser) when scrubbing is required. Avoid furniture polishes and wax-based detergents in general, because they tend to form a sticky layer on the surface which will allow dirt to adhere.

Luxe High Gloss Collection:
Modern Styles to Impress

The Luxe Collection is created with state- of-the-art coating technologies, combined with the latest generation of materials.

FEATURES
  • Ultra High Gloss
  • UV Stability
  • Exceptional Color Fastness
  • Resistance to Dry Heat
  • Stain  Resistant
  • Impact and Scratch Resistance
THE TECHNOLOGY
The Luxe High Gloss Collection is created with state- of-the-art coating technologies, combined with the latest generation of materials.

EASY MAINTENANCE
Regular surface cleaning can be done simply with a nonabrasive cloth moistened with soap and water.  While the surface is highly resistant to staining, impact and scratches, it is possible to buff out minor wear and tear.

Style Sheet | Open Plan Kitchen with Mediterranean Warmth

Time2Design Kitchen Style Sheet...

Kitchen Style - Open Plan with Mediterranean Warmth

Shown here the cabinet door style ~ DeWils Madisson, cabinet finish ~ stained solid cherry, countertops ~ granite, backsplash ~ subway tile with mosaic inset, floors ~ porcelain tile, hardware ~ brushed nickel knob.

Centrally located in the home this kitchen opens up to an adjoining family room and dining area making this open plan kitchen the true center or "heart" of the home.  The contrast of the solid cherry cabinetry finished in a warm chestnut finish contrasted against the lighter floor tile and granite gives this kitchen a beautiful warm Mediterranean feel.

Being so open the custom wood hood creates the perfect focal point in this kitchen and is nicely complimented by the oversized subway tile at the backsplash and mosaic inset over the cooktop.  In addition the raised countertop at the island provides a great seating area for guests and the lower countertop space allows for a nice oversized area to use while preparing meals.

The completed Time2Design Kitchen...

Creating a kitchen that functions for the needs of our clients is, in our opinion, the number one priority of kitchen design.  Second is to design a kitchen that is aesthetically pleasing and compliments the interior design of the home.

During the design process, with Time2Design, we create a style sheet that shows the kitchen design elements ~ cabinet door style, wood species, finish selection, countertop selection, flooring and backsplash option.  This allows you to see how the style and finishes compliment one another creating your individual kitchen style.

Its not your Grandma's Kitchen | Plastic Laminate Steps It Up!

Even though retro is sort of back right now, it doesn't mean you want your kitchen, your bathroom or any room in your house to really look like your grandma's house.

Vintage Formica Advertising Postcards - photo via ebay listing
As much as I loved my grandmothers and have amazing fond memories of their homes, I don't long for those gold flecked white plastic laminate countertops.

pic - House Beautiful April 1957 issue

With that in mind,
step into the 21st Century...

When was the last time you took a look at Plastic Laminate or even considered plastic laminate for your cabinets or even countertops for that matter in your home or business?  Well I can honestly say, having been in the kitchen and bath industry for over 25 years it has been awhile since the subject of using plastic laminate has even come up.  For me it was, key word was, sort of like asking if you want to buy a Yugo or a Pinto if you remember what those are.  Well Yugo's are not around anymore or Pintos for that matter, but  Formica has been around for over 100 years and is BACK in  fresh, exciting, new and innovative ways!

Formica turned 100 years in 2013

I had the pleasure of celebrating their birthday with them at KBIS2013 in New Orleans. (Great cupcakes by the way)

Ok, ok, so I know you are trying to get past that whole Yugo / Pinto comparison, sorry about that I was just making sure you were paying attention.

So that was then...and this is NOW!
(insert applause, oohs and aaahs here)

Formica Magma Black

“Although granite continues to be popular, homeowners are expanding their material preferences to include new stone variations,” said Amy Gath, vice president of marketing at Formica Corporation. “Our latest laminate patterns are fresh, affordable and maintenance-free alternatives, making design trends accessible for all.”

Formica - Lapidus Brown

During my trip to KBIS/IBS Design Construction Week 2014, in Vegas as a member of the #BlogTourVegas Team, I got to see first hand Formica's most recent pattern and finish introductions.  As a professional I have to say this is the first time I have been excited about plastic laminate in a very long time.

“The new 180fx® patterns reflect some of the most stunning granite options on the market,” said Amy Gath, vice president of marketing at Formica Corporation. “Using advanced printing technology, we authentically replicated each beautiful detail in true scale ― capturing the high-end look homeowners desire without sacrificing the maintenance-free and affordable nature of laminate."

The 2014 180fx® introduction includes:

Formica - River Gold 180fx4

3546-46 River Gold in Etchings™ Finish: An inviting creamy-white granite with linear veins of gold and gray highlighted by chocolate-brown crystals. One of the most desirable granites, it reflects the trend toward light and white sophisticated stone. The Etchings™ finish enhances the “river-like” quality of the pattern with its light linear movement.

Formica - Lapidus Brown 180fx2

3547-RD Lapidus Brown in Radiance® Finish: A versatile and timeless granite that features vibrant gold tones and rich iron veining highlighted by creamy white crystals and gray and black pebbles. Its rich color palette will coordinate with a variety of cabinetry, from light golden maples to cherry to antique black. The Radiance® finish highlights the crystalline structure.

Formica - Magna Black 180fx

3548-RD Magma Black in Radiance® Finish: A dramatic stone that lives up to its name, each slab appears as if liquid lava has been poured over it. Rivers of gold, gray and rust highlighted by pure white crystals create a bold pattern. The Radiance® finish deepens the black background and accents the pebbles and crystals.
Formica - Red Dragon 180fx2

3549-RD Red Dragon in Radiance® Finish: An exotic and alluring rich red with dramatic veining and gray crystals. The Radiance® finish intensifies the color and complements the crystalline structure.

All 180fx® patterns are available with IdealEdge™ laminate edge profiles. Suitable for curved, clipped or 90-degree corner installations, IdealEdge™ decorative edges transcend the customary limitations of laminate by eliminating flat edges and brown seams.

In addition to unmatched aesthetics and performance, all 180fx® patterns are designed to minimize environmental impact. Each pattern is certified under the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) and the GREENGUARD Certification Program (including a GREENGUARD Certificate of Compliance Gold).

With over 100 years experience, Formica is leading the way with innovative new and exciting patterns, finishes, edging and surface materials.  The realism in the pattern, color and selections available are amazing and virtually hard to tell from the original pieces of stone, wood, metal and other surfaces they were made to reflect and look like.

Laundry Rooms Can Be Beautiful ~ Before & After

Laundry room ~ frequently the forgotten room.  Just because it is "the Laundry Room", doesn't mean it can't be a beautiful space in your home.  More often than not when people think about interior design the laundry room is not the first room that comes to mind.  In fact it is usually the room when I am in people's homes I often find to be given the least amount of importance.  Laundry rooms are not only overlook, but there is usually not much thought given to how it functions.

If you stop and consider the amount of time you spend doing laundry, ironing clothes, getting cleaning supplies and equipment (frequently stored in what I like to call the laundry dumping ground) you would realize that this is a space that deserves some interior design and space planning attention.  It is a utilitarian room in your house that is used, often daily, and it should function and look beautiful.

I recently had an opportunity to participate in the 17th Annual Jewels on the Bay Showhouse and my room was the Laundry Room in David and Ilene Denton's home.  Their laundry room was in fact a perfect example of a space that was forgotten.  As you can see from the pictures below there wasn't a lot going on in their laundry room when the transformation began.  This was for them a room to do laundry, iron, storage and a dining space for their dog Lenny.  It lacked color, they didn't have any counter space for folding, very limited storage space and it was merely a place for the washer and dryer.  It was to me a place that was not being utilized to its full potential and was with great delight that I was able to provide them with a laundry room that is multi-functional now and created a spectacular new dining area for their dog Lenny. click here for a close up of Lenny's dining space...

Fix This Kitchen / Consulting Designer

I was asked to be the consulting designer for a, first time ever, Webisode for the A&E show Fix This Kitchen.  Thru months of preparation the week finally arrived this past December and the 5 day kitchen remodel transformation took place.

Fix this Kitchen receives hundreds of nominations and entries to participate to have their kitchen totally remodeled.  Anthony Russo (accomplice) with his mom Susan Brewer (homeowner) created their audition tape, sent it in and out of the hundreds of audition tapes they were selected to receive a brand new kitchen.

I have often wondered if the TV shows we all love and enjoy on HGTV, DIY and Bravo, really take place in what seems an impossible amount of time and unrealistic timeframes.  I am here to confirm, that yes a Kitchen can be torn apart and put back together in just under 5 days.  It is not without chaos and confusion, nor stress ~ but at the end of the 5 days the epic moment when the homeowner arrives to see the finished project is the best reward!

For me the experience was one filled with emotions. I had the pleasure to select and recommend David Koukl owner/contractor of Custom Homes Inc. ~ his company was responsible for the construction and installation of the job.  It was my honor to have been selected to be a part of making this amazing kitchen a reality for Susan Brewer.  Meeting Susan's son Anthony and spending time with him during the crazy five day process, of tearing out the old kitchen and remodeling his mom's kitchen, gave me an opportunity to truly get to know him and his family.   They are a really close nit family with an amazing faith and a true commitment to each other.  I was truly touched by what a wonderful gesture it was of Anthony to nominate his mom and seeing their family interact was testimate to their family bond.

Just After the reveal! Rachael Russo, Eric Greenspan,
Susan Brewer, Anthony Russo, Carmen Christensen

For me the hightlight was meeting Tracy Hutson ~Host  and Eric Greenspan ~ co-host.

Tracy Hutson is interior designer, style consultant, actress and author.  Most notable she has been part of ABC's Extreme Makeover Home Edition since 2003, is the founder of Tracy Hutson Designs, mother of two adorable sons and author of Feathering the Nest ~ Tracy Hutson's Eco-friendly Guide to Decorating Your Baby's Room.

I had a great time hanging out with her and truly enjoyed our "Design Time" together.  Thanks Trace ~ you rock!

Eric Greenspan - "Chef" is known for his love of food on Food Networks's "The Next Iron Chef Season 2" / "Iron Chef America Challenge" / Executive Chef - Owner of The Foundry / Executive Chef  - Owner of The Roof on Wilshire / And soon to be opened Greenspan's Grilled Cheese Restaurant.

Greenspan has skyrocketed to success and has been named runner–up for Los Angeles magazine’s "Best New Restaurant." Eric's amazing sense of humor kept everyone on set and the job-site in good spirits as we plowed thru the amazing kitchen transformation of Susan Brewer's kitchen remodel.
